THE WAHM MODEL

The WAHM model has successfully been utilized in the buy and rehabilitation of well over 500 single family homes located within distressed minority communities across the Eastern United States of America. One very vital component of the principles of WAHM is the training and employment of local residents within the same communities where the homes exist.

Since in many cases these communities are not active with sustained construction and development, the local labor force is not equipped with the necessary training, tools and construction delivery systems to perfect substantial redevelopment. This is where the principles of WAHM come in. Under this model there is an understanding of the ongoing need to provide tools, training and work while you learn opportunities, for local residents of distressed communities.

Many members of the WAHM model’s traditional labor force have had construction experience to do the job. That is not the problem. Since these communities which this labor force comes from have traditionally been redlined or victimized by a lack of affordable capital flowing into the community for redevelopment, sustained employment which is needed not only to insure competency but to sustain life, is not possible. The principles of WAHM teach the local inhabitants to support and encourage each other in order for gorgeous and sustained redevelopment to occur.

WAHM promotes linkage between local residents and the local vocational technical schools, to give skills in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVACs etc. One of the main reasons that enrollment decreases at the vocational school level is that many would be students do not believe there will be employment after school. WAHM promotes employment during the day and school and additional training at night…as well as on the job training. WAHM encourages local larger subcontractors and builders to partner up with local construction workers so that they may become a part of their teams.

Generally there is mentoring by those working on WAHM projects which reaches out to many who are not working, either because of not having the skill level or because they have been released from prison and cannot gain employment because they are ex felons. WAHM promotes “place them back to work”.

There are hundreds of workers who without the principles of the WAHM model they would have never been given the opportunity to work. WAHMs philosophy is simple, Millions of distressed homes in our communities, Millions of distressed residents needing jobs especially in construction and lastly millions of people needing affordable housing right in our neighborhoods.

These principles of WAHM utilized correctly will place millions of people back to work, beautify millions of very distressed homes by turning them into millions of gorgeous affordable homes.
